Albert K. "Sonny" Nainoa

Sergeant First Class Albert K. "Sonny" Nainoa, 75, died June 12, 2003, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"Sonny" Nainoa was one of the many Hawaiian rifle shooters who learned his trade well as a soldier in the 25 Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks. "Sonny" started shooting smallbore and service rifle in the 1950's for his Regiment, Battle Group, and Division. He shot with and coached several USARPAC Teams through All Army, Fort Niagara, Interservice, and Camp Perry.  He was awarded the U. S. Army Distinguished Rifleman Badge in 1959.

"Sonny" was assigned to the USAMU as an Instructor/Shooter with the Service Rifle Branch from 1965 to 1968. SFC Nainoa served in the Republic of Vietnam (1968-69) and  was assigned to the 9th Infantry Division Sniper School at Dongtam, RVN.

"Sonny" is remembered as a highly respected rifle coach who coached numerous USAMU winning teams. For those who served with him, he is remembered as a soldier of exemplary character.
