Staff Sergeant Major (Retired) Roy H. Combs, 72, died on Monday October 20, 2003, in Columbus, Georgia .

SGM Combs was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He made two combat parachute jumps with the 187th Airborne Regiment Combat Team in Korea and was the NCOIC of the 101st Airborne Division Sniper School in the Republic of Vietnam from 1969 to 1970.

SGM Combs was first assigned to USAMU in 1966 as a Service Rifle shooter and later assumed the duties of the Head Coach of the Service Rifle Branch. SGM Combs was the USAMU Sergeant Major from 1975 until he retired in 1979.

SGM Combs awards include the U. S. Army Distinguished Rifleman Badge, Purple Heart Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge with Star, and Master Parachutist Badge with two Stars.
