Lloyd "Whitey" Burchett

Sergeant First Class (Retired) Lloyd "Whitey" Burchett, 79, died on Saturday June 25, 2005, in Athens, Georgia.

Lloyd began his military career during World War II serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He later enlisted in the Army in 1949 and retired in 1966. He was assigned as a member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Pistol Team shortly after the unit was formed in 1956.

Lloyd was a member of the gold medal Free Pistol Team at the 1959 Pan American Games in Waukegan, Illinois. He earned the U. S. Army Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge in 1959 and the United States International Distinguished Shooter Badge in 1962 for his Free Pistol medal performance at the World Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

His friends will remember "Whitey" as an outgoing person who never met a stranger.
