Marvin
D. Black
Sergeant
First Class (Retired) Marvin D. Black, 68, Service Pistol
Shooter, died November 21, 2009 in Columbus, Georgia.
Marvin
was a two-tour Vietnam War veteran and his awards include the Bronze
Star Medal. In 1961, while serving in the 3rd U. S. Infantry
Regiment (The Old Guard), he had the privilege of marching in
President John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Parade.
Marvin
was assigned to the U. S. Army Marksmanship Unit Service Pistol Team
and was a member of the Army Blue Team. He shot both NRA 3-Gun
competitions and International pistol disciplines.
He
was awarded the U. S.
Army Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge
in 1962, the President's
Hundred Tab in 1973, and the United
States Distinguished International Shooter Badge
in 1974.
Marvin
was the Center Fire Pistol gold medal winner at the 1975 Pan
American Games in Mexico City and was a member of the Standard Pistol
bronze medal team at the 1974 World Championships in Thun, Switzerland.
In
national pistol competition, he set many records during his
assignment with USAMU. In 1973, he won the Center Fire National Match
Course at the National Matches, Camp Perry, Ohio, with a record score
of 300-20x a record that still stands.
Marvin
was very proud to have been able to call himself a soldier, a
veteran, and above all else, an American. |
