Major Michael E. Anti, an International Rifle Shooter with the US Army Marksmanship Unit, was selected as the Military Marksmanship Association Soldier of the Year for 2004.

Colonel (Retired) "Arch" Arnold, MMA President, presented Major Anti with a trophy pistol donated by Smith & Wesson Corporation at the Annual Membership Meeting on February 23, 2005.

A special thanks to Smith & Wesson Corporation for their continued support of the MMA Soldier of the Year by their generous donation of the trophy pistol.


Major Michael E. Anti is an international rifle shooter assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, Fort Benning, Georgia. He began shooting in 1978.

A resident of Winterville, N.C., he graduated from Camp Lejeune High School, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, in 1982 and received a degree in marketing in 1987 from West Virginia University.

Anti joined the Army in January 1988 and served as a platoon leader and executive officer at Camp Hovey in Korea before being assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit as an international rifle shooter from 1991 to 1994. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, where he was a brigade assistant training and operations officer as well as a company and headquarters commander. He again joined the Army Marksmanship Unit International Rifle Team in May 1998.

  • 2004 Olympic Silver Medal in Men's 50-Meter Three-Position Rifle

  • Member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program

  • 2004, 2000, and 1992 Olympic Shooting Team Member

  • 2003 USA Shooting Prone Rifle National Champion

  • 2002 World Championship Team Member

  • 2000 World Cup Gold Medalist and National Prone Champion

  • 1994 National Three-Position Champion

  • Four Gold Medals and Silver Medal at the 1991 Pan-American Games

  • 1982 World Championship Team Member

  • Three-Time Championship of the Americas Medalist
