"Red" Mosely's Army and Federal Civil Service career
spanned over 45 years: much of that time with the U.S. Army
Marksmanship Unit (USAMU). He shot his first "All Army"
match in 1956. "Red" was selected for the U.S. Army Pistol
National Trophy Group in 1956 and 1957, and assigned to USAMU in 1958.
In 1957, he won
the first Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Pistol
Championship with the gold medal presented to him by King Paul in
Athens, Greece. Mosely was a member of the 1960 Olympic Team and a
Pan American Games gold and silver medalist in 1963.
He is a 2600
Shooter, recipient of the President's
Hundred Tab, the U.S.
Army Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge, and the United
States Distinguished International Shooter Badge.
After a tour with
the First Infantry Division in Vietnam, he returned to USAMU to serve
as the OIC of the Pistol Branch. He left USAMU to become the Sergeant
Major of the Committee Group, Advanced Infantry Training Brigade,
during the congressionally mandated test of One Station Unit Training
(OSUT). Following his retirement from the Army in 1979, he earned a
degree from Columbus College.
In 1983, he
re-joined USAMU as a Civil Service employee and was the Custodian of
the Excellence In Competition (EIC) awards program, Operations
Officer at the Small Arms Firing School (SAFS), and the unit's
Automation Officer. "Red" retired from Civil Service in
1999, and resides with his wife, Traudel, in Columbus, Georgia.
"Red" became the Association's Secretary in June 1999 and
Webmaster in December 1999. |
