The Globe-News of Amarillo, Texas, announced that the late Tommy G. Pool has been selected as one of the Top 100 Sports Legends of the 20th Century. Tommy was a world-class international rifle shooter assigned to USAMU and was in the group of first inductees into the USAMU Hall of Fame. He earned the United States Distinguished International Shooter Badge for his medal winning performance in the 1962 World Shooting Championships.

The newspaper's sport staff selected the top 100 all time athletes, coaches, and sports media personalities from the Amarillo area as part of the Globe-News Celebrate 2000 program. The Celebrate 2000 program includes recognizing individuals of the Texas Panhandle who have had an impact on the region.

Tommy's wife, Nancy Pool, accepted a special crystal award at the Sports Legends banquet held April 1, 2000, at the Amarillo Civic Center. Mrs. Pool is a USAMU employee and is the Army's Excellence in Competition (EIC) awards program manager.
