Annual
Membership Meeting - January 2003
1. Annual Meeting: The Annual Membership Meeting of the
Military Marksmanship Association was held on January 25, 2003, at
Pool Indoor Range, Fort Benning, Georgia.

e. Call to Order: A quorum being
present, the President called the meeting to order at 3:10 p.m.
2. President's Welcome: The President welcomed and thanked all
for attending the meeting. He called the role of association members,
family members, and friends who had died in the past year. He then
asked for a moment of silence for those who had passed away. The
President followed with a slide show presentation listing the agenda
of the meeting.
3. USAMU Commander's Report: Colonel Hoidahl recognized each
member of the MMA Executive Board and commended them for their
service and pledge continued USAMU cooperation and support. He
continued by summarizing the accomplishments of each one of the USAMU
sections and highlighted a number of outstanding individual
performances. COL Hoidahl remarked that USAMU is routinely visited by
high ranking guests. He noted that USAMU ranges would be used to host
a World Cup event in May 2003. Finally, he announce that he would be
retiring and that a change of command ceremony would be held in June 2003.
4. Unfinished Business:
a. The President reported that IRS tax-exempt
status was nearing completion.
b. The President told the membership what
efforts were made during the past year to increase membership and
that the association was now at a high of 504 members.
c. The President remarked that he felt that
there were persons associated with the USAMU in its early years who
had not been fully recognized. He pledged to continue his efforts to
have the accomplishments of these individuals recognized.
5. New Business:
a. Association Officers and Committee
Chair Annual Reports: Each association Officer and Committee
Chair addressed the membership and presented a brief summary of
activities within their areas of responsibility. See attached
briefing slides.
b. Presidents Report:
(1) The President noted that the Association
was on solid footing and that the Officers and Chairpersons had
accomplished much as previously reported.
(2) The President reviewed the accomplishment
made be the association during the year and highlighted MMA activities.
(3) The President noted that the 46th Reunion
and Hall of Fame Ceremony was a success and thanked USAMU for their
cooperation and support. He also noted that the Golf Scramble was
enjoyed by the MMA members who participated in the event.
c. Soldier of the Year Award: The
President introduced nominees for Soldier of the Year and displayed a
slide showing their accomplishments. He announced that the Executive
Board had selected Staff Sergeant Jason A. Parker as the
association's Soldier of the Year for 2002. The award for Soldier of
the Year is a pistol donated by Smith & Wesson Corporation.
d. Special Thanks: Mr. Canella thanked
the members for attending. He specifically thanked CPT Howe, SFC
Frazier, and the USAMU Operations Section for their assistance and
thanked Smith & Wesson Corporation for their donation of the
pistol for the Soldier of the Year award.
e. Drawing of Door Prizes: Drawing for
a number of unique and gag items concluded the business portion of
the meeting.
f. Recognition of New President: Mr.
Canella recognized the new Vice President, Bruce Meredith, and the
new President, "Arch" Arnold. He then turned the meeting
over to the new President.
g. Recognition of Outgoing President:
(1) The USAMU Commander thanked Mr. Cannella
for his cooperation with USAMU and presented him with a photo plaque
from the USAMU.
(2) The MMA President was presented a hand
made knife with stand and engraved plate on behalf of the membership.
The knife was made and donated by MMA member Thomas Militano.
6. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 4:25 p.m.
