1, Section 4 of
the Constitution of the Military Marksmanship Association states that
one of the objectives of this Association shall be to support the
goals and objectives of the US Army Marksmanship Unit. The goals and
objectives (or mission) of USAMU are listed below. |
The U.S. Army
Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) was formed in 1956 by President Dwight D.
Eisenhower to raise the standards of marksmanship throughout the U.S. Army.
Today, the
USAMU is assigned to the Accessions Support Brigade at Fort Knox,
Kentucky, which is under U.S. Army Accessions Command, at Fort
Monroe, Virginia. The Accessions Command is charged with overseeing
recruiting and training of the Army's enlisted Soldiers and officers.
The USAMU
trains its Soldiers to win competitions and enhances combat readiness
through train-the-trainer clinics, research and development. The
world-class Soldier-athletes of the USAMU also promote the Army and
assist recruiters in attracting young Americans to enlist in the
Army. This assignment has added a new dimension to the mission of
USAMU and has added the role of Army Recruiter for each USAMU member.
The Mission
Statement of USAMU is to:
The USAMU
enhances the Army's recruiting effort, raises the standard of the
Army's marksmanship proficiency, and supports the Army's small arms
research and development initiatives in order to raise the Army's of
overall combat readiness.
USAMU is
continuing to accomplish the mission of enhancing combat readiness.
The Custom Gun Shop leads the way in R&D with the current service
rifle and service pistol. Have you heard the one about the M16 not
being accurate? Don't you believe it! The USAMU developed M16 and
5.56mm ammunition will "eat out" the center of a
target at 600 yards. As many former USAMU shooters did, you will find
the current assigned USAMU soldiers training other soldiers
world-wide, such as the 1996 Association Soldier of the Year and
USAMU Service Rifle instructor SFC Singley
did in Bosnia.
The recruiting
effort is a new mission for USAMU. But what better way to
"sell" the Army than to have one of USAMU's young shooters
talk it up at a State Fair or put on a demonstration at a high
school. Cool!
Of course with
the recruiting mission, each Association member should think of
themselves as an Army recruiter, too.
Additionally,
the USAMU
web site has a page devoted to current and recent news stories about
USAMU shooters.
